Psoriasis is a long-lasting, non-contagious autoimmune condition characterized by raised, thickened, and inflamed patches of skin. It is also considered a psychosomatic disorder. Common sites include the knees, elbows, scalp, and trunk. Dry, scaly, and rough patches are typical signs. Factors such as stress, alcoholism, obesity, cold weather, skin injuries, and lack of sunlight can trigger flare-ups.
In Ayurveda, it resembles Kitibha Kushta, where lesions appear blackish-brown, rough like a scar, hard, dry, and scaly like fish skin, often without sweating. Psoriasis involves the vitiation of Vata and Kapha doshas.
